Today, the creation of cute rag dolls-tilds is a completely independent direction in needlework with its own established traditions. At the same time, the first tildes appeared not so long ago: they were invented in the late 1990s by the Norwegian artist and designer Tone Finnanger. In 1999, Tone was 25 years old, she worked in a needlework store and dreamed of making characters for animated films. As a result, Tilda appeared: deliberately simple, emphasized man-made, cartoonishly cute doll sewn from fabric. Today Tilda is a registered brand. But the charm of such characters turned out to be so great that the creation of these dolls quickly became popular with needlewomen around the world. It so happened that tildes are now called dolls of the brand, and all others, like them.
By the way, the name "tilde" is Tone's choice. In her family, it was customary to call all sonorous, short names beginning with "T", and the name that seemed to her was the most suitable for a doll.
