The long zipper just needs to be shortened and the cut properly processed. How it is more convenient and better to do this, we will tell in our master class on the example of three main types of lightning: ordinary, secret and with metal cloves.

How to shorten a regular zipper

The length of a regular plastic zipper is adjusted from below.

Step 1

Using a ruler from the lightning slider, measure the required length down and put a mark across the teeth.

Step 2

On the sewing machine or manually, bartack.

Sew a straight stitch exactly according to the marking with a seam back and forth 2-3 times.

Before you perform this step on a sewing machine, make sure that there are no metal cloves and clips in the zipper at the place where the fastening is performed.

Step 3

Step back from the fastener 2-2.5 cm and cut off the excess part of the zipper.

How to shorten a zipper with metal cloves

The length of the zipper with metal teeth is usually adjusted from above.

Step 1

Using a ruler from the fastener, measure the required length up and put a mark across the teeth - this is the place where the slider will be located.

Lower the slider below the markings.

Step 2

Using small pliers, carefully remove the teeth along the edges of both zipper strips, starting exactly from the marking.

Step 3

Loosen a section of approximately 2–2.5 cm from metal teeth.

Step 4

Carefully cut off the excess part of the zipper exactly at the top cloves.

Step 5

Fasten manually with a tight seam.

Or use the original clips, install them on the zipper with pliers.

Done!
